Unsettled by Marlena Wyman, 2015, encaustic on birch cradled panel, 12″X24″
My latest painting is inspired by the stories of settler women who left behind the manicured gardens and civilized surroundings of their homes in Europe to come to what was most often a hard life on the vast, flat prairie.
“…how hopelessly unattractive and different it all seemed…in such striking contrast to the pleasant and congenial surroundings I had always enjoyed in my home in England.”
Quote from Mrs. Pauline Denny’s book, “Early History of Swift Current”.
This painting is in the Harcourt House exhibit “New Territories” running from June 18 to July 10, 2015.
